yoga
Yoga is a lifestyle composed of several pieces. Eight, in fact. These are considered the eight limbs of yoga, and only one of these limbs involves movement. They work together in hopes of guiding us toward full consciousness. They are a little heady, but you can read our description of the eight limbs and their details here.
In the realm of yoga's movement practice (called asana), there is great benefit, both from the traditional postures and breath practice. This practice was created as a way to open up the body so that we could be more comfortable in our seated meditation practice. BeBeingBecome believes that yoga asana is a wonderful entryway to feeling our bodies. When we can deeply feel these amazing structures we live in, we can truly inhabit them. And, once we realize that we are not actually separate from our bodies, that's where the magic happens!
Meditation is another of the eight limbs of yoga. It is a way to clear ourselves, find our breath and feel what is happening on a physical, mental, emotional and spiritual level. It is what we consider asana for the mind. A meditation practice can be done many places, from our specific meditation cushion to walking in our neighborhood, and the dynamics involve recognizing our thought processes and patterns. Meditation is ultimately an awareness practice. It allows us to "be still and awaken to realization of who [we] are (Adyashanti)."
Brandi is trained in traditional Hatha Yoga (the general name for asana limb of yoga), as well as in Prajna Yoga. She holds 200 hour certifications from both Yandara Yoga Institute and Prajna Yoga School. She continues her study with Prajna's founder and primary teacher, Tias Little, at least once per year, and is working within their advanced training program. This program contains "in-depth yogic studies course and offers comprehensive continuing education in the areas of yoga therapeutics, nutrition, the emotional body, the organ system, the chakras, the vayus, sutra study (from both Patanjali and the Buddhist canon), lymphatic yoga, sequencing, manual adjustments and more." She has also been an intern and assistant of Sara Avant Stover, studying The Way of the Happy Woman yoga and lifestyle practices, since early 2011.
Brandi has a self practice and study in yogic philosophy, movement and meditation. She believes that each body may obtain peace through the practices of yoga and may be pain free, more supported and balanced by way of yoga asana. She offers movement education that emphasizes safety, alignment and comes from a therapeutic and functional perspective. Her instruction emphasizes the embodiment of the yogic path, as more than just a movement practice.
